My University Work

The Harp

Year 3
12 Weeks

This Harp is inspired by the one described in the A Court of Thorns and Roses book series, currently being made into a television series I created this harp as a prop design with the goal of making sure it was true to specifications in the book as well as small and light enough for the actors to carry as needed while still being made from wood. This piece is entirely made from wood, the carvings are all done by hand with traditional carving tools apart from the scales in the neck which were done using a CNC machine and finished by hand.As seen at New Blades 2023!

Bust Sculpture

Year 3
12 Weeks

Inspired by Auguste Rodinā€™s famous sculpture The Kiss, I aimed to replicate the intimacy of the sculpture and create a bespoke piece for a home makeover television series. This piece was sculpted in clay and then cast in plaster. The mould was made using silicone and plaster and comprised of two pieces for each bust. After casting, each was fitted with a steel rod for support. As seen at New Blades 2023!

Bear Corbel

Year 2
10 Weeks

Inspired by the new live action Disney movies, This Sandstone Bear was designed as part of a corbel for a set on Disneyā€™s upcoming live action movie Snow White. This piece was sculpted in clay and then cast in resin. The mould was made using silicone and plaster and comprised of three pieces, with the ears being cast completely separately and then reattached after casting. As seen at New Blades 2023!

The Bug Progect

Year 2
2 Weeks

Similarly to The Shell Project, for this project, the brief was to create a scaled up a bug of our choice using reduction sculpting techniques in chemiwood, and sculpting any small parts, such as the antennas or feet in milliput. the hardest part about this project was the fragility of the legs and antenna when being assembled and attached.

The Shell Project

Year 2
4 Weeks

For this project the brief was to create a scaled-up version of a shell, this was done as a clay sculpt and then moulded with a two-part silicone and plaster mould, and then cast in resin, the resin cast is hollow as to not waste materials and make sure that the model is not too heavy, the hardest part about this project was the painting as all of the paint from each wash of colour would seep into the indented texture of the shell

Life Casting

Year 2
4 Weeks

To create this Viking-inspired arm brace I created a life cast of a friend's arm in plaster, I then sculpted my design on top and made a plaster mold of my sculpt and cast in latex, this was then trimmed and painted the latex cast which I glued onto a leather base, attaching straps and buckles to make the piece wearable. I would have liked to include some stitching on the leather as an extra detail but did not have time.

Time Machine

Year 2
8 Weeks

This is a second-year piece for our Time Machine Project. Originally inspired by telephones of the 40s and 50s, I recreated a WW2 Dictograph as my time machine, with a secret compartment for all the controls. This piece is made using a variety of techniques and materials including, laser cutting plywood, steam bending veneer, 3D printing, and lathing and reductive sculpting in chemiwood.

Faberge Egg

Year 1
4 Weeks

The brief for this project was to make a Faberge egg inspired by an art movement and include a way for the egg to open. I chose Art Nouveau as my art movement, featuring a simple ribbon hinge with a hidden decorative catch at the top.though my original mechanism was much more complex. this project taught me how to vacuum form and mold, cast and heat bend low relief, as well as the importance of not over-engineering a design.

The Door Project

Year 1
2 Weeks

This simple project taught me how to properly scale objects, translate a photograph into technical drawings, and then into a three-dimensional model. The challenge for this project was to not use any filler so I needed to make sure that all of my technical drawings and measurements were precise, I used a CNC Machine to help me with this for the parts made using 5mm acrylic like the stairs.
